Eight Promising Startups Awarded at BCIC-New Ventures Competition
New Ventures BC and the BC Innovation Council kicked off Vancouver Startup Week by awarding $300,000 in cash and prizes to eight BC-based up-and-coming startup companies.
The 2016 top honours were awarded toMicrodermics, a painless alternative to deliver vaccinations and therapeutics and monitor drugs in the bloodstream; Jane Software, an integrated medical clinic management tool to coordinate online bookings, bill, and store electronic patients’ records; and Iris Automation, a collision avoidance system for industrial drone use.
The BCIC-New Ventures Competition is the biggest of its kind in Canada and highlights up-and-coming provincial technology startups. The competition has supported more than 2,000 entrepreneurs over the 16 years it has been running and has been a strong contributor to BC’s tech economy. To date, alumni companies from the competition have generated 3,300 jobs and raised more than $300-million in financing.
